The jar, which was taken from the beach in Florida where Brady ended his 23-year career, was listed on eBay on Thursday (2 February) for $99,000 (£82,200).
Over 110 bids have been placed on the unusual memento by fans with more than a week to go until the auction ends.
Even though this is Brady’s second retirement from the NFL, it appears that his fans are still eager to acquire a memento of his departure from the sport “for good.”
According to the Miami Herald, the 45-year-old made the brief statement from Surfside Beach, where he used to live with his ex-wife Gisele Bündchen.
As a tribute to the quarterback, the user listed the item for a modest $667 (£553) on Thursday. The number represents the total number of touchdowns Brady scored during his career.
The memento’s eBay seller, Gadgetgs, will not accept returns and will also charge an additional $5.25 ($4.36) for shipping.
They stated to bidders, “You will find no other listing like this.”
“On February 1, after the GOAT announced his real retirement, no one else took a sample. They continued, “You will own the very land on which the GOAT retired.”
Despite this, a number of con artists have copied the eBay listing, some of which have already received bids exceeding $12K (£9.95K).
However, the unusual memento does not please everyone who follows Brady.
A person wrote: Consider the child who planned to package the sand on which Tom Brady stood.
Another person tweeted: Why does this individual believe that the sand Tom Brady stood on is valuable? I could not get one dollar for it.
The original auction will end on February 12, and it is possible that the jar will reach over $100,000 before then.
“Imagine the weirdo who purchases the sand; he is not very important, given that he was a sports player. Congratulations, but damn that packaging sand… whoever devised that plan needs counseling.”
