Taylor Swift Sobs Over a Dead Man in First “Amsterdam” Movie Trailer

Taylor Swift is busting out her acting chops once again.

Back in June, it was announced that the singer would be starring in director David O’Russell’s next big project — now, the title of the film has finally been revealed, and a first look at the movie has been shared.

At this year’s CinemaCon, an industry convention for Hollywood studios, the first trailer for David O’Russell’s newest film Amsterdam was shown to audiences. Film executives have described the film as a “crime epic.” According to the film’s official IMDB page, the synopsis reads as follows: “Set in the ’30s, [Amsterdam] follows three friends who witness a murder, become suspects themselves, and uncover one of the most outrageous plots in American history.”

According to Variety, the film’s trailer shows Taylor standing over the body of a dead man in a box — presumably her character’s father — uncontrollably weeping.

“You have a dead white man in a box. It’s not even a coffin, it has no lid,” co-star Chris Rock says while Taylor continues to sob in mourning over the dead body. “You know who’s going to get in trouble? The Black men.”

The mysterious new movie has kept most of its details under wraps, save for its enormous cast list. Some of the actors appearing in Amsterdam alongside Taylor Swift and Chris Rock include the film’s leading trio of Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, and John David Washington, as well as Rami Malek, Zoe Saldaña, Robert De Niro, Anya Taylor-Joy, Mike Myers, Timothy Olyphant, and Michael Shannon — and that’s not even the entire roster.

Taylor has previously starred in a handful of live-action films, like the 2010 rom-com Valentine’s Day, 2014’s The Giver, and 2019’s musical movie Cats

However, being part of such a star-studded ensemble cast in a high-profile drama like Amsterdam definitely marks a new chapter in the singer-songwriter’s acting career.

While we might have to wait a bit for the Amsterdam trailer to be shared with the rest of the world to see it for ourselves, we can at least look forward to the film’s confirmed release date: the movie will be released on November 4, 2022.

Mark your calendars, now!
