All hail Olivia Rodrigo, Gen Z’s latest muse. She’s partly responsible for the renaissance of 00s beauty trends – remember her Brutal music video, in which she appeared complete with coloured hair extensions and bubblegum blush? – and continues to serve up beauty inspiration on the red carpet too.
Her appearance at the Grammys – where she scooped three awards, no less – was no exception. Complete with a 90s-look choker, she sported iridescent eyeshadow with a hint of purple, a winged liner look and a subtle brushed-up brow. The key make-up player here though, was undoubtedly the wash of petal pink lipstick. The best news is that the product responsible is only £14, a bona fide cult classic, and available to shop in the UK. See the subtle sheen, below:
The product lending all that spring-ready colour is none other than Glossier’s Ultralip in shade Villa, £14. Make-up artist Lilly Keys was behind the glam and said that the inspiration behind the look was ’90s supermodel, modern punk glam.’ As for the dreamy lip, Keys ‘smudged the lipstick into the lips, smooshing it just above the upper lip line with fingers to give that just kissed look.’
And perfect for ‘smooshing’, this lipstick is. Glossier’s Ultralip formula gives just a hint of colour along with a plush, hydrating, balmy finish. You can build the colour for something more intense, or ‘smoosh’ into the lip – like Lilly did – with your finger for a look that’s casual and not too ‘done’.
While the muted, dusty rose shade Villa that Olivia wore is perfect for spring, there are a whole host of others to choose from too. Highlights include Fête, a poppy, watermelon red, and Vesper, a berry fuschia.
