Spring has officially sprung – just look at Katie Holmes’s wardrobe for the proof. She’s been living in cosy coats and does-it-all denim throughout winter, but now that the blossom is out she’s back in her floaty dresses.
Moving on from her avant-garde Acne Studios loafers and Reformation’s flattering Jackie jeans, Holmes has gone from preppy to girlish, via a sprightly spring dress from Kate Spade. The actor styled it with pointed white slingbacks and a black bag for an outing in New York this week.
The dress’s floaty silhouette is a shape that Katie knows and loves. The puffy sleeves are similar to those seen on another gingham Kate Spade dress in her wardrobe, while the flowing skirt and cinched waist echo her signature Ulla Johnson styles.
Katie is also a fan of mood-boosting prints. Rather than looking to stereotypical spring florals – “groundbreaking”, as Miranda Priestly so witheringly put it in TheDevil Wears Prada – she opted for a nature-inspired design with a kaleidoscopic butterfly print.
