Honestly, Sandra Oh’s Critics’ Choice Awards Dress Would Make the Perfect Wedding Gown

When awards season coincides with wedding season (which, in reality, is pretty much all of 2022), we can’t help but view each gown that graces the red carpet as a potential guest or bridal ensemble — or, at the very least, inspiration for finding something similar. That was one of our first thoughts upon seeing Sandra Oh’s outfit from the 2022 Critics’ Choice Awards.

Oh, who was nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in The Chair, truly stole the show in a bright white column dress, which featured a plunging neckline. The Lafayette 148 design was sleek, sophisticated, and slightly sexy. With the addition of a veil or an embellished headband, it would make for the perfect look for a fashion-forward bride.

While we send our thoughts directly to the brand (possibly for selfish reasons), Lafayette 148’s creative director, Emily Smith, revealed her actual inspiration for the dress with InStyle.

“For Sandra, we wanted to create something that was dramatic yet understated; minimal yet a standout,” she told us via email, sharing a sketch of the look. “For me, there is an inherent beauty and modern confidence that comes with architectural lines, and clean, minimal design. I’m a firm believer that clothes should never wear the wearer but enhance the wearer’s character and charisma.”

Yes, yes, and more yes. We agree — Oh definitely looked stunning.

Apparently, picking this shift dress — which, Smith adds, is “draped in ivory silk cady” with a plunging neckline and gilded belt for just “the right amount of surprise” — was pretty easy for Oh and her stylists, Jill Lincoln and Jordan Johnson.

“The second Sandra put this dress on, we knew it was the one. It immediately felt effortless and cool, and you could see she loved how she felt in it,” they told InStyle. The two are a big fans of the brand when it comes to dressing their clients. “Lafayette 148 hits all the right notes of a brand that embodies wearable luxury, which is an overarching theme in how we approach dressing our clients. Every time a client has worn a look from Lafayette148 the response rings true to our goal … this time was no different.”

The good news is, even if there are no red carpet events or weddings on your calendar, you can still shop a celebrity-approved look at Lafayette 148. Aside from breezy dresses perfect for the warmer weather, the brand makes great staples, including must-have denimknit sweaters, and even swimwear.
