French girl chic isn’t for everyone. As modelling’s ultimate California girl, Gigi Hadid brings a little of that carefree, playful energy to every runway she graces, and this season, as she’s made her way through Europe for the collections, she’s kept her wardrobe lively. Instead of sticking to the model-off-duty staples of luxury denim and leather jackets, Hadid has embraced neon hues, floral prints, and cosy textures.
In Paris, Hadid and her stylist Mimi Cuttrell have focused on colour, opting for a palette filled with greens, yellows, and rich neutrals. Since breezing into the city to walk Off-White’s autumn/winter 2022 show, Hadid has worn multiple looks featuring a standout bright. At rehearsals for Coperni on Monday, she waltzed in wearing the marble knits from Kim Jones’s resort 2022 collection for Fendi. The swirls of blue, green, and yellow made were subtle, but Hadid paired her sweater and matching trousers with shocking blue sunglasses from Poppy Lissiman for added oomph.
Post Off-White, Hadid headed to her car in sparkling separates from Virgil Abloh’s spring 2022 collection. Her pale yellow parachute cargo pants, trench coat, and sequin crop top made for an effortless combination that epitomised Abloh’s skillful mix of influences. Fit for a sneakerhead – Hadid paired the look with the brand’s coveted Oddsy 1000 trainers – or a starlet, the late designer’s versatile creations epitomised all-American style.
On Thursday night, while out to dinner at L’Avenue on Avenue Montaigne, Hadid wore what may be her most daring outfit of the season. In a floral catsuit and matching coat from Bruno Sialelli’s spring/summer 2022 Lanvin collection, she celebrated a historic French house while channelling blithe, California-girl energy. Peppered with pop-art daisy prints in pastel yellow and pink shades, the Lanvin design felt exuberant. The superstar’s bold beauty statement echoed that mood. Done up to the nines in matching eyeshadow by make-up artist Patrick Ta, Hadid brought a ray of sunshine to PFW’s nightlife.
