Lizzo is being praised by her fans for responding to ‘fatphobic’ comments in the most Lizzo way possible. Watch her video below:
It all started when conservative pundit and podcast host Candace Owens made unsolicited comments about Lizzo’s body on social media.
In a tweet posted last week, Owens responded to a tweet shared by trainer and health coach Gina Bontempo, who re-shared a nude picture of the ‘About Damn Time’ singer.
“Obesity is on the rise and yet women are told by celebrities and the media that being obese is normal and ‘healthy’,” Bontempo wrote. “You never see them try this with men. Only women are insecure enough to fall for it.”
Owens agreed and responded: “Only women could be emotionally manipulated into supporting their own eradication via support for ‘trans men’.
“Only women could be fooled into supporting a death cult of ‘fat acceptance’. Today’s cultural battles prove that women are more irrational and emotional than men.”
She continued: “If you peep comments on any of Lizzo’s ‘fat acceptance’ photos, you will undoubtedly find a score of bats**t insane women telling her that she looks beautiful.
“Men do not lie to other men in this way. They do not pretend that clinical obesity is beauty.”
Another Twitter user replied: “’Bro you got fat as f**k’” to which Owens agreed.
She wrote: “Correct. This is how men speak to each other. They do not celebrate one another’s failures. Men have to be objectively great at something to earn applause from other men. They strive toward excellence.
“Women? Not so much. We lie. Emotional-based lies that are ruining society.”
After Owens’ comments were criticised by social media users she responded with another post including a picture of the Grammy-winning star wearing her infamous thong outfit at a Lakers game.
“LOL to everyone telling me that Lizzo is allowed to be naked in public but the public is not allowed to comment on her body,” she continued.
“Gaslight someone else. You don’t get to do outlandish things and then be offended when people comment on your outlandishness. She wants attention.”
Never one to remain quiet when a public figure makes an unprovoked comment on her body, the pop star responded with a video on Sunday (16 April) which was shared via Instagram.
The ‘Rumours’ hit-maker declared: “I just finished showering and doing my little routine. You know what I realized? I am f**king gorgeous.
“I am the beauty standard. Catch up, b*tch.”
Lizzo’s followers praised her and called for her to continue spreading her message of body positivity.
One woman replied: “Keep up the body positivity!! You are legit gorgeous and have the most beautiful skin I have ever seen. Your face glows without makeup, it’s miraculous!! Your positivity will always win against their negativity.”
A second follower said: “I f**king love you.”
A third shared: “Lizzo!! I love you!! I’m a plus size woman and you’ve made me embrace my beautiful curves.
“Thanks for representing the big girls. Thanks for also putting big girls in your shows, videos, as backup dancers.. etc. we need to see it to believe we can do it sometimes, so thanks for not being afraid to be you! Love from Canada.”
